Working with Providers

Communicating with providers

We know our policy changes affect our provider partners as well. That’s why we’ve been committed to open, clear communication throughout this change process.

How We Share Information

BlueAlert

BlueAlert is a monthly newsletter for our provider community, featuring important updates and reminders about our company’s policies and procedures. The newsletter is available on provider.bcbst.com. Providers also get an email about the latest edition.

Provider Administration Manuals

Provider Administration Manuals are updated quarterly with medical policies and guidelines. They include information about how we deliver member benefits, how we determine medical necessity and other important decisions. You can find them here.

Policy change dates

Below is a timeline of our outreach to providers:
  • May 15, 2025
  • We shared information with in-network providers about the mid-level provider rate changes.
  • We sent contract amendments to BlueCare network providers about the lab and drug policy changes.
  • June 15, 2025
  • Deadline for BlueCare network providers to reject amendments.
  • June 30, 2025
  • We issued standard termination notices, as dictated by contracts, to those providers who rejected affordability changes.*
  • July 15, 2025
  • Provider rate changes took effect July 15, 2025.
* This is a standard procedural step that allows us to continue working together toward an agreement. It does not mean the provider will leave our networks immediately.

Policy change dates

  • In January 2025, we introduced our medical cost savings initiative to providers in the BlueAlert newsletter. Since then, we’ve published four articles describing upcoming policy changes.
  • We added a new section to BlueAlert so providers can easily view coding updates, lab testing policies, upcoming prior authorization changes, pharmacy updates and medical policy updates.
  • Quarterly updates have been published in Provider Administration Manuals since July.

Since July, we’ve continued to work with our provider partners to discuss policy changes and reach agreements that maintain affordability for our members.
