What we’re doing

Marketplace Coverage

In 2021, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan, which temporarily increased tax credits for people buying their own insurance on the Marketplace. At the end of 2025, these enhanced premium tax credits expired, resulting in many Americans paying a higher share of their monthly insurance costs.

What you can do now

The future of enhanced premium tax credits is still unknown, but we’re continuing to educate lawmakers about their value to Tennesseans. In the meantime, if your tax credit has decreased and you’re facing higher monthly costs, here are some things you can do now:
Remember that you can reapply for Marketplace coverage or change your plan after open enrollment if you experience a qualifying life event (QLE). If you are changing plans due to a QLE, consider switching to a Bronze Marketplace plan, which offers lower monthly premiums than Silver and Gold plans (all Marketplace Bronze plans are now HSA-compatible). Get info on all our Marketplace plan options.
Check to see if you are eligible for group insurance coverage through a spouse, or parent (if you’re under age 26).
Apply to TennCare for coverage if your financial situation and/or income has changed.
Keep an eye on the news and visit this website for updates if Congress passes legislation extending Marketplace subsidies.
